Share of winners by age
Every winning age, as a share of all winners in that code. The contrast is the whole story — two completely different shapes, driven by physical maturity and how each sport is run.

Flat horses mature early and the calendar is built for them young — two-year-old races, three-year-old Classics — and many of the best are retired to stud before they turn five. Jumpers are bred for size and stamina, take years to fill their frames and learn to jump, and race on into double figures. A six-year-old is a veteran on the Flat and barely getting going over fences.
Method. Share of UK & Irish winners by age, 2015–2026. "Flat" is races run from starting stalls (a recorded draw); "Jumps" covers the rest (hurdles, chases and National Hunt flat). Past results don't guarantee the future. 18+ · BeGambleAware.
